Open Book Exams
Just finished my Economics Exam. Was troubling my 6 year old cousin yesterday seeking Pencils,eraser & Sharpeners from him :-)
Most of the exams in MBA are Open Book exams. One is permitted to bring his/her Laptop ( No internet connection though) , Books,Notes etc.. This must be shocking for most Indians in particular since in India exams are sacrosanct with no external help. The adventurous of course always managed to slip in the Bit,resorted to mass copying & became rebels of the Class.
The joke about Open book exams is that the book is of little help to you.Since most of the Questions are thought based ( Which make you think than state facts ) , books are of less help and in fact one might end up wasting time .In most of the exams I am taking , the final exam counts only for 40% or 50% of the final since we have already been evaluated for the rest in the form of Cases,assignments,Class participation.
I really enjoyed the Macroeconomics and hope to sustain that interest.

Open books are generally tougher than the regular ones and take homes are more tougher than the open book ones. Good to note that u had lots of fun taking the exam :)

In our Univ, there was a Prof well-known for promoting open book exams. In one incident, we had our exam starting almost around 5pm. At 530, he suddenly got a call and had to go. We complained ther was not enough time because the question was very tough. He suggested we take the answer sheets, answer them individually, and submit them next morning. After this, later in the night, the entire class except one gathered in the hostel, discussed the question, analysed, took help from seniors and completed the answer. All of us wrote the same answer in different language. This person who didnt come to hostel, wanted to score a point with the Prof next day. He gave a half-baked answer, and complained to Prof - "Sir, these guys instead of wiritng the answers on their own, all of them, sat and discussed, and also took help from seniors, and almost all of them have the same answer. Pls check them" Prof shot a queer and weird look at him and said "Thats the reason I asked them to take home because this answer will come out only after complete discussion and they'd understand the concept. Not only that, they'd also need seniors help in crafting the response..." You shud have seen the bewildered look on the face of the guy who encountered open book exam for first time in his life!!!
