P.Chidambaram - The Man

Being the Finance Minister of India is not an easy job. Particularly when you are running a coalition with the Leftists as your partner . Its a constant battle between Socialism Vs Adam Smithian free markets.

I admire him a lot . One of the Astute Financial Brains in the Country, he has always managed to tread the thin line of satisfying both the Classes and the masses. Chidambaram's ( An Harvard MBA), 1997 budget was described as a " Dream Budget" , and his last year budget focussed more on the Rural India. Monday (28th Feb) is the "Budget" day in India .I am looking forward to the Budget because this would also be the first time , I would be analyzing the budget as a management student .

Btw, Here is a nice article in Rediff on P.Chidambaram.

  • The fin min job is the most unenviable job in this country...look at what Laloo had done with the Railways..its not a budget, its a game of sucking the elephant off all its blood.....the industry is all gaga over the non increased freight charges...the left is not-unsatisfied with non-increase in the passenger charges...the public are satisfied with all the goodies they got as concessions....
Now what I am really worried is, will there be something called Indian Railways, at the end of this decade with all these goodies...and popular measures....

  • Railway Budget has lost the relevance it had decades ago. Its a mere tradition these days and no revolutionary steps have been taken in the last few years. Its sad.
