What ails Tamil Nadu ?

It is the third largest economy in the country. On per capita income it ranks 10th nationally and an astounding 78 per cent of its population live above the poverty line. With a literacy rate of 73 per cent as against the national average of 64, school enrolment higher than that of even Kerala and 232 engineering colleges churning out graduates, it is poised to lead the skills-set race. Add a rare distinction, surplus power, to 92 per cent road connectivity and 42 per cent urbanisation and you have a picture investors would drool over. Yet Tamil Nadu ranks No. 3, behind Maharashtra and Gujarat, in terms of investment. Why would this be so? ( Courtesy : India Today )

India Today to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of its Tamil edition held a Conclave to discuss this issue. While most felt it was a perception issue and TN was not Marketing itself aggressively , the others felt that the Political parties needed to have consistent policies.

As IT,ITES,Auto firms increasingly seek Chennai , its better that TN Govt thinks about developing the Second tier cities too . All of them agreed on two things : The state needed a long-term Plan and needs to coin a slogan ( To attract tourists) .

How about " Gods come down to earth" as a Slogan ? ( I seem to have heard it somewhere , does it already exist ?)

  • Can you send me the india today link ?
I think we should include something that has references to "Temples and kings"
"Gods" have already been taken up by Kerala right ?

  • Hari,

Here is the Link . http://www.indiatoday.com/itoday/20050307/states2.shtml
    (You might need a login)

I thought of " Gods come down to Earth" because of the abundance of temples which are the USP of TN.

Ila, Apart from that TN has excellent human resources & work ethics and one of the lowest attrition rates (Madrasis love their city ! ).

  • read somewhere...
Tamil Nadu is promoted as "a state of mind"
I think they are playing on the word 'state'.(conveying both TN and a level of existance)
'a state of mind' also signifies a experience...also maybe signify a talent pool of mind workers...
this may be it....r maybe i am just reading too much into those four words...

  • Arun, " State of Mind" sounds nice but seems too generic. Perhaps the Mind factor could be attributed to Thiruvannamalai ( The amazing Siddhas and mind control),Kanyakumari and the various Thiruthalams .

  • This is a typical Management guy attitute of yours...Is finding a slogan for the TN state utmost important??? When Thatha and Amma had looted the place more than the Britishers/Moghuls.

I'm sure you will be placed in top notch consultants after you graduate, because this is how they earn money :D
