Sun's Big Bet

Sun is acquiring Storage specialist company StorageTek in a deal worth US$4.1 Billion. Considering that Sun hasn't been doing too well in the recent years, this might be a crucial bet for the company's future.

Having worked in Enterprise Backup and Storage arena in my last Job, I have seen the market exploding and demand for storage professionals rising in the recent past. The Industry has also witnessed a lot of mergers ( EMC's acquisition of Legato , Veritas - Symantec Merger) and I wouldn't be surprised If Microsoft decides to enter this segment in a big way soon.

The natural and man made disasters of the past have sent firms fleeing the path of Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery. The world of backups, tape libraries,Robots looks promising ..
