25 must see bollywood movies
Indiatimes has compiled a list of "25 must see bollywood movies". Movies evoke different passions in different people. While some worship movies , there are others who profess disdain for movies. As someone who belongs to the "Worship" club, here is a quick comment on the list.
Here is the list : Black, Lagaan, Satya, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Mr. India, Jane Bhi Do Yaaron, Arth, Deewaar, Sholay, Bobby , Garam Hawa, Pakeezah, Anand, Padosan , TeesriManzil, Guide, Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam, Mughal-e-Azam, Pyaasa, Mother India, Do Aankhen Barah Haath,Devdas, Do Bigha Zameen, Awara.
I think the list is pretty well balanced and chronologically evenly spread out. While there are some surprises ( like Garam Hawa,Mr.India) , there are also some classics which missed out.
IMHO, the ones that missed out are Golmaal,Chupke Chupke , Dil Chahta Hai, Masoom,Ardh Satya,Koshish,Aandhi,Jagte Raho,Khamoshi (The old one) , Bandini.
So If you are new to bollywood movies, this is a nice list to start with !

I would like to see Garam Hawa in the list...very underrated film. Mr India was a suprise though. Would certainly include a Hrishida comedy instead.
Cheers!

Interesting to see Black in that list, in my opinion it should be replaced by Iqbal
Hari

Please comment which Devdas? Clearly i didnt like Bhansali's Devdas, bcoz it lacked the authenticity of 19th century Bengal (Remember the Bengal famine??). Ofcourse the music of Ismail Darbar was great, but those loud, garish sets and costumes were bad.

I dont know how they compare to the rest of the films in th list...since I havent seen most of the old ones..
From what I would have seen..how would you rate Vaastav ( a well-made gangster movie) and Munna Bhai MBBS (a modern cult comedy that sparked of imatations in many languages) ?
And I disagree with Mr.India..it doesnt deserve a place there.
Hum Aapke hain Kaun??
All the movies that I am listing are all post 90's...guess that will affect the chronological balance..:)

abhi -- Yeah Hirshida anyday, anytime. How can they miss Golmaal ?
gorm -- Actually for once you have made some good suggestions :-)
Osc -- Sarkar is perhaps too closely bordered on Godfather to be included.
Hari -- Haven't seen Iqbal but have heard its very good.
Anon -- This Devdas stars Dilipkumar and was directed by Bimal Roy (released in 1955)
Ram -- Looking back over a period of 75 years, Munnabahai isn't such a great movie. Glad they didn;t include HAHK !
venkitu -- whoa..
