Ganguly -- A victim of Politics ?

I am no fan of Sourav Ganguly but the way he has been axed from the team is not proper. The real reasons for the dropping might never be known but the most popular theory is the Sharad Pawar - Dalmiya Politics ( Of course the other theory is that he is an outsider in the team now after having openly fought with the coach and the team might stand behind the new captain - Dravid). Whatever is the reason , let us learn to treat our heroes well .

  • i would go with the chappel dravid theory rather than the political one even though that is more tempting to believe. its sad...the end of the second golden era of indian cricket. i hope dravid and chappel can stitch together a decent partnership like the ganguly wright one...

  • Please... Gaangoo's time is over... let him rest in peace and take care of his restaurant business... The very fact that none of the players have come in support of Ganguly shows that there is more to what we are seeing than what is being published in the newspapers and shown on TV Channels....obviously Gaangoo is crying about all the endorsements and money that he is having to lose!

  • When i was sacked did Ganguly care about me???? Then why the hell i should i worry about this.. Majority of Indians ruin because of speaking about cricket instead of playing the game.

  • nothing wrong in being passionate about a sport eh? no one questions mad NBA or NFL sparts fans...no one talks about Soccer violence?? cricket is our soccer and I think theres nothing to be so dispassionate about...we enjoy the sport..most people have played it and enjoy discussing it..whats wrong with that?

  • Yeah it is sad to see no team member raising an issue with the selection. However to be noted: apart from Sourav Ganguly, no other team member comes out openly and passionatley about his team players.

I am sure there is a lot more that what meets the eye and not being in the country makes it even harder to contemplate..But CS..I totally agree with you..we shouldn't forget our heros.

  • Ganguly could have gracefully stepped down & not waited to be recalled.
    His prime is over so...
"Move over buddy, give room" is what he made the selectors say.
Isn't it tragic that the fall had to be so sudden & unexpected!

  • Abhi -- Both theories looks equally plausible.

anon -- Whatever said and done, Gangly brought new vigour to the team.

uma - yeah, the game has gone to the back burner..

random -- its sad to see icons fall..

If the dropping is more of disciplining a player, it is fine whether he is the captain or a player. Someone quoted Greg running an army regimen - no qualms for people who anyway need to be fit, rather than enjoying sitting on the benches, despite being part of the team. If my memory servers right, Venkat had such befall after his captaincy came under fire when Sir IVA sent him packing at Delhi( it is a different ball game as Venkat used to get in and out of the team at the expense of Chandra and Prasanna) and Azaruddin too had such an ignominous exit.
Team stands above individuals and why something is not mentioned about youngsters getting in and out of the team at young age itself, when they are supposed to have a long innings.
