Lord Balaji temple soon in Chennai

So are you a Chennaiite ( Btw, Is Madrasi derogatory ? ) who travels often to Tirupathi temple ? In a few years you might not have to.

PTI (via Rediff) reports that, " Construction of a Rs 100 crore Lord Balaji temple in Chennai, similar to the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala near Tirupati, is likely to commence in 2006.The land identification process was on. "We were shown four or five places in the city. But our Agama and Vaasthu experts have not approved these. However, the land will soon be identified and construction work is likely to commence in 2006", he said.

He added that once approved, the TTD will spend up to Rs 100 crore for the construction of the temple."The TTD board is keen to have a Balaji temple in Chennai as nearly two-thirds of devotees who come for darshan at Tirumala, are from Tamil Nadu," he said.

  • One more new temple?
There are so many dilapidated old temples with lots of history behind them. This 100 crores can go a long way in repairing those old temples.

  • WOW..Wonderful..our economy is going to boom because of that!!! They should start one in Dubai there is where all the money is. Instead of Vaasthu and aagama they should check with Mckinsey or PWC for help.

  • Hari -- Though I accept ur point, Unfortunately thirumala is not a govt run institution and hence not obligated to do it.

Ravi -- Thatz a wrong argument. Why shud they resurrect sick industries ? Its the market forces and govt that determine the existence of businesses.

    hell - :-)

gorm -- economy will defly boom due to those jobs created during construction !

    peace - thx

citizen -- It depends. What you say might be true in the short-run.

  • Itz really not an encouraging news in my opinion. As everybody has pointed out there are several temples which are old and without any care. It is better to spend something on them.

People should also start visiting the divya kshetrams in TN. They need more care and attention. Construction of such new temple will knock down the trailing importance and popularity of Vaishana Temples in our state.

  • Raghavan - I agree with your point. Even I would like to see that happen. But unfortunately, thatz not the way the world works .
