US equities

After weeks of carnage, is there still hope left for equity investors? At least one Man thinks so. Warren Buffet is confident that equities would outperform Cash in long-run (Ha, the long run).

Why does he think its a good time to invest now? - "A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful".

However the short-term is still anybody's guess .

Paul Krugman wins the Nobel Prize for Economics

Krugman made economics simple by bringing it from its arcane academic halls to the living room of the common man. Having been a long admirer of his books & columns in the New York Times for its blunt, incisive and persuasive style, I commend the committee for selecting him.

The other factor that has clearly favored his choice is the current economic climate. His fierce criticism of Prez. Bush , am sure, has stood him in good stead amidst the current wall street debris. Congrats Paul !

Economic recession - The hazy outlook

Yes, we are officially in it. Singapore became the first Asian country to slip into a "technical recession" with two consecutive quarters of negative growth. Though it doesn't feel like one yet here, the water cooler / friend's get-together talk is all about it.

On a different note, Iceland became one of the earliest countries to collapse under the weight of the global financial crisis. No one likes a economic downturn ( at least most) ,but this one is destined to stay a little longer and let us hope for the best.

Illayaraja's next venture

After the highly impressive and successful " Thiruvasagam" musical venture, the maestro has announced that he would be tuning the Naalaiyira Divya Prabandham ( 4000 divine verses) next.

With 800+ movies, 3 national awards and millions of ardent fans , there is nothing more to achieve for Illayaraja in film music. Its admirable that he is creating these lasting works that satisfy his musical hunger and those of his fans. I would be one of the first ones to buy this CD !
